This is the architecture we believe in.
Flagship Store H was conceived as a dynamic architectural statement for Hertex, a well-known South African retailer in the fabric and furniture sectors. Located in Fourways, Johannesburg, the site sits within a design quarter filled with similar showrooms — prompting a bold architectural approach to differentiate it from its context.
The design addresses a complex programme: housing a double-volume furniture showroom, a fabric showroom, associated offices, and a destination restaurant — all within a single, cohesive form. The result is a striking, layered building composed of curved and rectilinear planes, realised in concrete, brickwork, steel, and glass. These elements wrap and reveal the interior, forming a sculptural envelope that activates the prominent corner site.
The double-volume showroom opens generously to the street through large expanses of glazing, offering passersby a clear view of curated interior displays and anchoring the building within its commercial setting. Attached to this, the two-storey wing houses the fabric showroom below and a restaurant above, envisioned not just as an amenity, but as a drawcard for increased foot traffic and engagement with the Hertex brand.
The building’s form expresses movement, materiality, and retail identity — creating a space that reflects the values of design, curation, and experience at the heart of the Hertex offering.
